83rd

Spirits and words, arranged on the 83rd shelf.

A small ten-seat bar in a quiet corner of Yokohama, Japan.

Where drinks, people, and words naturally bring smiles.

03 Concept

What I love about drinking is not just the taste, but the conversations beyond the glass. Since I was young, I've cherished moments of drinking, laughing, and sharing stories. I believe there are no bad people among true drinkers. With this belief, I gather spirits from around the world, hoping to create a place where conversations and memories linger among the bottles.

before you open the door

This is a very small place, with only ten seats.
If you are visiting Yokohama, I would be happy if you came to fill one or two of them.

I cannot offer anything grand.
My English is far from perfect.
But I would like to hear about your memories of Japan, your hometown, your travels, and the words you carry with you.

Since living in the United States when I was young, I have loved bourbon deeply.
Now I am a middle-aged Japanese man who still keeps that love behind the counter.

Let us share a glass while talking about Yokohama, Japan, and wherever you came from.

83rd is a small bar run by an Americanized Japanese middle-aged man standing behind the counter.

66 From the Owner The thought behind a small bar

Yokohama, where bar culture in Japan began.

What a small bar can offer.

In this city, with more than 160 years of history, I consider it a genuine privilege to stand behind the counter each day and welcome my guests.

Our bar has just ten seats, tucked away on the top floor of a building in Bashamichi. It can be a little difficult to find, but beyond the heavy door you will discover comfortable sofa seating for unhurried conversation and a rooftop terrace overlooking the night lights of Minato Mirai.

To let everyone enjoy the delicate aromas of their drinks, the indoor bar is entirely smoke-free. We ask guests to smoke both cigarettes and electronic cigarettes on the terrace, just beyond the door. Whether you smoke or not, I hope everyone can spend a peaceful evening with the Yokohama night breeze.

Today, we place great value on a membership program that offers special privileges. It is not intended to make the bar feel exclusive or difficult to enter.

In a bar with only ten seats, it is not easy to keep every kind of spirit and fresh fruit in stock. But through a closer connection with our members, we can learn each guest’s preferences and prepare a drink especially suited to the evening of their visit.

A bottle quietly set aside just for you. It is rather like a special drink that belongs to you alone, one you will not find on the menu.

Precisely because we are small, I want to accommodate each guest’s wishes as much as possible. Our membership privileges are one way of offering quiet, thoughtful hospitality.

Although ours is a shot bar, guests may also keep a favorite bottle here. To pour a drink from your own bottle and enjoy a quiet conversation away from the bustle of everyday life: having fallen in love with Yokohama’s bar culture and made this city my home, I hope to create a gathering place for adults that feels both familiar and new.

I believe that being small allows us to offer something special. May an evening spent sitting quietly with a glass in Yokohama leave a pleasant memory. Tonight, as always, I look forward to welcoming you from behind the counter.
