Bearing the Name of a Great Grandfather: The Origin and Supreme Standard of Bourbon
Old Grand-Dad translates to "great grandfather." Founded by Basil Hayden in 1796, it is a bottle filled with history and affection, featuring a portrait on the label drawn by his grandson, Raymond Hayden, out of deep respect for his grandfather. Although it is currently produced at the Jim Beam Distillery, the traditional manufacturing methods from the time of its founding are stubbornly and strictly preserved.
It has a high rye ratio, providing a solid punch and richness, while the sweetness unique to bourbon is harmonized in an exquisite balance. While its texture is approachable even for whisky beginners, its remarkable depth—capable of satisfying even seasoned drinkers—is its true appeal.
The Ultimate Style Loved by the Owner: "A Splash of Soda"
This is the label the owner loves most and always keeps in stock at our bar. Our top recommendation is our signature style, "a splash of soda." Pour 45ml of Old Grand-Dad into a small rocks glass, and top it up with soda at an exquisite ratio of 1:1 to 1:1.5, making it almost the same height as the ice. By finishing it before the ice melts completely, you get the ultimate drink where the soda's refreshing fizz bursts while preserving the rich aroma inherent to bourbon.
At "bar83rd," a hidden-away bar quietly nestled in Bashamichi, Yokohama, you can always enjoy Old Grand-Dad—infused with the owner's passion—in its best condition. Why not come and find your own personal "splash of soda" in a completely smoke-free, quiet private space? We sincerely look forward to your visit.
